Kaan Öcal is interested in constructing and calibrating realistic models of cellular processes, with a focus on gene expression. With a  background is in stochastic modelling (particularly the Chemical Master Equation), numerical simulation and Bayesian inference, he tries to combine these tools to explain what we observe in single-cell experiments. When not busy with any of this, he spends his free time hiking, kayaking and enjoying music.
